The Art of Intentional Goal Setting

Business Planning & Strategies
When it comes to goal setting, it’s easy to get carried away with lofty aspirations. Without a solid plan, even the best New Year resolutions can fizzle out by February.

Goal setting is a vital skill for success in any area of life. By setting clear and specific goals, individuals can focus their efforts, track their progress, and stay motivated. Whether it’s personal or professional goals, understanding the principles of intentional goal setting can significantly enhance productivity and achievement. Here’s how you can set meaningful goals and create a roadmap to achieve them:

1. Reflect on the past year
Take stock of your wins, challenges, and lessons learned. Celebrate your successes and identify what didn’t work. This reflection will give you clarity and direction.

2. Focus on SMART goalsetting
Ensure your goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Instead of saying, “I want more clients,” try, “I want to acquire 10 new clients by June through social media marketing.”

3. Prioritise your goals
Not all goals are created equal. Determine which ones will have the most impact on your business or personal growth, and focus your energy there.

4. Break it down
Big goals can feel overwhelming. Break them into smaller, actionable steps with clear deadlines. This approach keeps you moving forward and builds momentum.

5. Track your progress
Regularly check in on your goals—monthly or quarterly—and adjust as needed. Celebrate milestones to stay motivated and on track.

By setting intentional goals, you’re not just dreaming; you’re creating a strategic plan to make those dreams a reality.

Marney has been using vision boards to help her set and achieve her goals, and she shares her technique with others by hosting an annual Vision Board ‘fun shop’. Marney’s advice: “Wish it! Dream it!
