Why Your Network is Your Net Worth

Networks, Directories & Networking
“Your network is your net worth” has become a quote many entrepreneurs and small business owners have come to embrace. As a leading Australian business network which has been going strong for more than 30 years, Women’s Network Australia (WNA) believe there is a direct correlation between your network and your net worth. Here’s why:

Your network is the most important asset in your portfolio

Porter Gale, author of Your network is your net worth says: “I believe that your social capital, or your ability to build a network of authentic personal and professional relationships, not your financial capital, is the most important asset in your portfolio. I believe that seeking out and working in collaboration with others who share your interests and values will provide a stronger foundation, enabling you to reach a higher level of success than you would on your own. Therefore, I believe that your ‘net worth’ will be based, not on the size of your portfolio or the size of your network, but on your ability to define and stay true to your passions and values; and that working with other people who share them will allow you to build a strong and enduring interpersonal safety net that will carry you through any financial calamity to greater output and personal fulfilment”.

Your network creates opportunities to fuel your business growth

Meeting and connecting with like-minded individuals can open the door to incredible opportunities to fuel your business growth.

Having a closely formed network can help provide your business with potential customers, improve your business and creative ecosystem, discover new business opportunities and ventures and help build your business profile.

The opportunities and potential pathways really are endless!

Your network drives community growth

WNA has continued to flourish over more than three decades. We provide a forum for a growing collection of women (and some men) who are passionate in their commitment and belief in the role that networking can, and does, play in personal and business success.

At the heart of what we do is community; our larger business community, the local community in which we work and live, and the special WNA community which operates collectively around the Australian states and territories supporting other women in business.

If the women in the network succeed and move forward despite the multitude of challenges that we all face, then the various communities, whether they intersect or not, continue to thrive.

Your network helps build confidence

Someone once wrote: “No woman is an island” (okay, so we’ve modernised the original old English phrase!!) But the effect and meaning haven’t changed. We can sometimes feel as if we’re on an island or that we’re alone in facing a challenge, working through a business or personal growth problem or managing the juggle of everything.

But you can bet that within WNA, or other networks, there is someone who has faced a similar situation or who would be willing to lend some support or advice based on their experiences.

We all have a story to tell, whether it’s about our past, present or the future that we’re trying to create – and if we want to connect with others, we need an ‘elevator pitch’ to share that story.

Many WNA members over the years have helped to create a safe and supportive environment where you can test and maybe refine your elevator pitch, gain confidence and different perspectives as we all continue to develop our own journey.

Find out for yourself!

Experience the power of networking first hand when you become a member of WNA. Through our national network, you can make contact with women from a diverse range of professions and business backgrounds who can become mentors, friends and offer all forms of support for your business and career.
