How to Prevent a Stroke?

So, what exactly is a stroke?

 

Essentially, a stroke attacks the brain, the control centre for a human, and changes life instantly. 

Strokes affect people differently but damage to an area of your brain can impact how you think, behave, swallow, move your body, see, feel and touch. 

There are many risk factors that cannot be helped when a stroke happens. Some of these are older age, being male, family history or having experienced a stroke already. 

 

Having said all of that, there are things that can be done to help prevent a stroke by taking a few simple steps.

Did you know that more than 80% of strokes can be prevented? It is important to take simple steps in the prevention of stroke. A few things you can do are: 

  • Make time for a health check – blood pressure checks and cholesterol level checks are important
  • Eat well – plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables 
  • Stay active – even light exercise is good for you! 
  • Drink alcohol in moderation 
  • Quit smoking
