5 Tips For Getting Better Results With Twitter Advertising

Business By Social

Since Twitter introduced Twitter ads, it’s never been easier for any brand with products or services to promote, to find the right audience to promote it to.

Although Twitter ads are not as specific and detailed as ads on Facebook or LinkedIn, they remain very effective for traffic, leads and sales generation.

Once your ad budget has been decided on, as well as the goal of your campaign (whether it’s website traffic, engagement, sales, audience building or brand awareness), make sure you follow the 5 tips below to maximize your return on investment:

Tip 1: Split test
A common mistake made by inexperienced advertisers is the lack of time spent on testing different ads. When setting ads, regardless of the goal of the campaign, it’s important to create multiple versions in order to test all elements of the Twitter ad, such as the headline, the image, the text and the call to action.

Tip 2: Use images
Statistically, including images in tweets dramatically increase the number of retweets (tweets with images have 200% higher engagement rates than text-only tweets), and therefore by adding images in your Twitter ads will automatically increase the exposure of your campaign for free.

Tip 3: Track and optimise
One of the best practices is by far having the habit of checking your ads daily and entering the data collected in a spreadsheet. When you do, after a few days you will be able to see clearly what’s working and what’s not, and edit your Twitter ads accordingly. By doing so, you will dramatically lower your advertising costs.

Tip 4: Mobile ads
Since Twitter has now 320 million monthly active users and 80% of them are accessing the network on mobile devices, it goes without saying that when putting together your Twitter ad and selecting the devices you want your ads to be shown on, you include all mobile devices.

Tip 5: Copy other ads
As Pablo Picasso once said, “Good artists copy, great artists steal” and this could also apply to advertisers. Keeping track of ads appearing in your Twitter feed and going as far as taking screenshots and creating a library of ad campaigns will come in handy when crafting your own Twitter ads. Modelling existing campaigns that have generated a lot of buzz and that have caught your eye can save you a lot of time testing and researching.

There is a lot to consider when using Twitter advertising as a marketing channel. Regardless of whether you are an experienced advertiser or just starting out, the 5 tips above will help you increase your return on investment.
